Because it's such a cool and important feature (black texted signs are really boring), colored signs has been made available to players. Once you have been promoted to Knight, you will be able to use colored text on signs.
All you have to do is type the color code before your text.
So for example &4 is dark red, you type &4Hello!
For each new line in the sign you have to retype the color code.
